Art Lesson Plan: Coasters

Objectives:

  1. reuse bits of leftover yarn
  2. recycle plastic lids

Materials:

  1. yarn scraps
  2. plastic snap-on lids from hot chocolate, coffee, iced tea
  3. white glue that dries clear and waterproof
  4. scissors

Method:

  1. Generously spread glue inside the lid.
  2. Beginning at outside edge, wind yarn around and around towards the centre, changing colours if you wish, but tucking in ends, especially when you reach the centre. It looks like a giant swirl. Let dry. Done. ***Discuss the 3 R’s of the environment (reduce, re-use, recycle). Stress RE-USING lids and yarn to students, to make something new and useful.***
